Affirmations for the real world

Affirmations for the real world

‘Affirmations for the real world’ is my affirmation/declaration deck designed to help people experiencing a low socio-economic situation to both cope with and to grow beyond that situation.

Many affirmation decks do not address the basic needs of people.

As someone from a low socio-economic background, I remember the frustration of wanting to improve my attitudes and beliefs but finding the affirmations decks available at the time to be ineffectual, to say the least.

In late 2017, while collaborating on a community project in my then-home area, I decided to create an affirmations deck that respected the reality of people living in that and similar areas.

Using Maslow’s ‘Hierarchy of Needs’ as a basis for the declarations, I start this deck with affirmations for the physiological, safety and belonging needs every human must meet to survive this life, expand to include affirmations for thriving in life, and end with the qualities necessary both to live within a low socio-economic situation, and to move beyond it into a more positive one.

I then loosely linked each level of the Hierarchy of Needs to a chakra colour. The affirmation groups are:

  • physiological/basic needs ~ root & sacral chakras
  • safety needs ~ solar plexus chakra
  • belonging & love needs ~ heart chakra
  • esteem needs ~ throat chakra
  • self-actualisation needs ~ third eye & crown chakras
  • qualities ~ all chakra colours.

My intent in creating this deck of affirmations (or declarations) is to help you move beyond your current life with more empowered beliefs about yourself, your current reality and your potential.

Specifications

  • Size: 2.48” x 3.46” (63mm x 88mm)
  • Number of cards: 54
  • Card stock: 310gsm (linen)
  • Packaging: Plastic box

How to use:

Simply hold the deck of affirmation cards in your hand, take note of how you’re feeling in the moment, shuffle the cards and then pull one. This is your affirmation for the day.

Or, if you already know the area of life you want to focus on, or choose to uplevel your beliefs about, select the card with the closest affirmation.

Repeat the affirmation aloud at least three times, two to three times a day.

Keep this card somewhere you’ll see it often throughout your day. Every time you see the card, repeat the affirmation at least three times.

May these affirmations help you feel more hopeful about your life and yourself; that is my intention in creating them.
